Jeep! Jeep! Jeep!
I bought a Jeep
It is a 94 YJ Wrangler, with a 4.0 inline 6 and a manual transmission. I’m super psyched. My wife and I have wanted a Jeep for a while, but held off for other reasons. However, a posting on Craigslist showed up that was too good to pass up. Especially since the person selling it was more than willing to come down on an already reasonable price.
After an initial inspection things looked good, but after digging a little further on a few problems I’ve got some work ahead of me. Here is my list so far:
Updated: 3-10-18
- Leak from the transfer case and/or transmission.
Leak from the rear differentialSeems to run really rich, like bathing in gasoline rich.- Soft top is in rough condition, replacement will be necessary.
- Steering is really loose, but this could just be my first experience with a lifted vehicle.
- The KC Lites added to the front don’t work.
- Glove box door not attached to hinges.
- New seats all around, but rear seat is not currently attached.
- Doors don’t lock and the key I have doesn’t operate the key cylinder anyway.
- A prior owner put truck all-terrains on it, so the ride is really stiff.
- The factory temperature gauge doesn’t seem to work, but there is an aftermarket one added below the dash that does.
- Tail light lenses are on different directions.
- 4 wheel drive is difficult to engage, might be related to the TC leak, the linkage might be off or ?.
- It has an aftermarket radio, but apparently someone tried to steal it (why this one?) and it’s doesn’t currently work.
After all that, hey no Check Engine Light though! None of this is out of the ordinary for a vehicle of this age. I plan to work on the rear diff seal and an oil change tomorrow. Here’s hoping I don’t find anything terrible with the gears.
